Immersion Course Information

These courses run before and after the festival, giving participants the opportunity to study more intensively with selected international teachers.

Level: We recommend that you check with a senior NZ teacher if you are unsure which level is right for you. References may be needed for the Advanced Immersion. Check here for a level description.

Capacity: The immersions have a 16-17 couple maximum.

Registration: Register online in the ticketing section (registration opening early December). If registering with a partner, please include their name and email address  where indicated on the 'choose extras' page, and ensure they register at the same time, so space is confirmed for you both.

We take no responsibility for the level of partners on the course. Many couples do not rotate on these courses, so we strongly recommend that you find a dance partner to do the course with. It will be suggested that singles on the course rotate regularly. We will endeavour to ensure that there are even numbers of leads and follows in the class, but cannot ensure that they all be present each day.

Multiple Immersions: If you wish to book for more than one course (one before and one after the festival), you can book your second course at a discounted rate, see the registration page for details.

Information: More information about the immersion courses, including the daily schedule, will be emailed out to registered immersion participants 2--3 weeks before the festival commences.

About our Classes

VISION "In improvisation we trust" About tango, we love the possibility to build the dance through small moments. Even if we use patterns while dancing, we challenge the couple to decide step-by-step what will come next. We believe in the real improvisation

CLASSES In our classes, the dancers will work on awakening the body awareness and connection in order to develop the physical dialogue within the couple. Our technique work doesn’t only have an aesthetic purpose, it rather helps to find the comfort of the dancers in a relaxed and sensitive embrace. To stimulate the improvisation in your dance, we focus on short and useful situations rather than long sequences.

GOAL We provide students with useful information to help them develop a personal and creative dance, encouraging the diversity that we so much love about tango.

This immersion will cover:

SESSION SofiaPablo 0966 Edit M 3

Two main aspects during this 9 hour-immersion series.

ONE: The seminar aims to improve the dancing experience, the comfort and the togetherness within the couple. Understanding the dancing body (your partner, you and the floor). Some technical organisation for the couple.

TWO: The practice of specific tools to develop your own expression through tango. Developing a better musical connection, the use of qualities of movement; exploring with lines and circles to create movement. Understanding better the tango styles to use them according to your need. The dialogue and the real improvisation. So, this seminar is not JUST about technique, or JUST about expression, or JUST about patterns or music… because in the end, when it comes to "dance", all of these aspects go together.

See the performers/teachers page for their full biography.

Cost: $565. This includes a gold festival pass worth $365. Book on the registration page

Cost: $300, without festival pass, this option can be found on the events section of the registration page.

It is based on strengthening the links between old years Tango and today’s. Rescuing "yeites” from the old milongueros, developing ever deeper ties and bridges, to be able to apply them in the Tango of today.

Throughout the course we will cover the following topics:
