Immersion Course Information
These courses run before and after the festival, giving participants the opportunity to study more intensively with selected international teachers.
Level: We recommend that you check with a senior NZ teacher if you are unsure which level is right for you. References may be needed for the Advanced Immersion. Check here for a level description.
Capacity: The immersions have a 16 couple maximum.
Registration: Register online on the registration page. If registering with a partner, please include their name where indicated on the registration page, and ensure they register at the same time, so space is confirmed for you both.
Singles: We take no responsibility for the level of partners on the course. Many couples do not rotate on these courses, so we strongly recommend that you find a dance partner to do the course with. It will be suggested that singles on the course rotate regularly. We will endeavour to ensure that there are even numbers of leads and follows in the class, but cannot ensure that they all be present each day.
Multiple Immersions: If you wish to book for more than one course (one before and one after the festival), you can book your second course at a discounted rate, see the registration page for details.
Information: More information about the immersion courses, including the daily schedule, will be emailed out to registered immersion participants 2--3 weeks before the festival commences.

3 Day Advanced Immersion Course
with Cecilia Gonzalez and Somer Surgit

A 13.5-hour intensive course.
Dates: Tuesday 19 - Thursday 21 June
Cecilia and Somer will be teaching us to explore the quality of movement of the different elements of tango in order to experience a new perception of the movement and ourselves. We will learn to connect with the idea of a fluid movement traveling though the couple, trying to play with weight, the turns, the balance between tension and release. The balance of ourself and as a couple, the embrace and the perception of the connection.
See the performers/teachers page for their full biography.
Cost: $595. This includes a gold festival pass worth $325. Book on the registration page.
Cost: $385, without festival pass, this option can be found on the events section of the registration page.
2 Day Advanced Immersion Course
with Alicia Pons

A 9-hour intensive course.
Dates: Wednesday 20 & Thursday 21 June
Alicia will be teaching tango milonguero style, the course will focus on:
- Sensitivity: Posture – Weight – Embrace
Development of sensitivity in men and women: exercises, walking with minimum contact. Different situations are proposed by each in his/her role. - Expression: Working together using different resources, for instance: breathing, round circulation of energy among partners, dancing in a circle around ourselves, the axis as an expression tool. Intention precedes movement.
- Communication: Establishing a dialogue, different responses to the same proposal. How we influence each other while dancing.
- Creativity: Different movement dynamics are proposed by different elements in the music. Using and combining all concepts covered.
All these concepts will be worked taking into account these five connections: with yourself, with the music, with your partner, with the dancing floor and with other dancers.
See the performers/teachers page for her full biography.
Cost: $550. This includes a gold festival pass worth $325. Book on the registration page
Cost: $300, without festival pass, this option can be found on the events section of the registration page.
3 day Intermediate Immersion Course
with Fabio Robles and Ana Andre

A 13.5-hour intensive course.
Dates: Tuesday 19 - Thursday 21 June
By the end of the course, you should understand fully all of the major components of Tango. The advanced dancer will also benefit from attending the workshops because while the intermediate level student is learning the new techniques, the advanced dancer is already applying them to the figures that they already know, enabling them to change the figure as they please.
Fabio and Ana are considered the most clear and precise teachers in Australasia, with beautiful technique and flair, and a wonderful sense of humour. They will definitely take your tango to the next level.
See the performers/teachers page for their full biography.
Cost: $570. This includes a gold festival pass worth $325.
Cost: $300, without festival pass, this option can be found on the events section of the registration page.

2 day Advanced Immersion Course
with Gustavo Rosas and Gisela Natoli

A 9-hour intensive course.
Dates: Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 June
Gustavo and Gisela are a young couple from Argentina, who were very popular teachers at our 2010 festival. We are delighted to be welcoming them back, and excited for this immersion. Their classes are well structured and their teaching style clear and accessible. Their versatility and sensuality in combination with their elegance, sympathy and flexibility infuse their personal style. They explore different styles of tango with their personality. This course will focus on their unique interpretation of the combination of traditional tango with new tango concepts which they call Tango Milonguero Nuevo:
- Close and open embrace.
- Balance and out of balance.
- Giros / turns.
- Woman's free leg.
