Free workshops on Tango Music with Stephan Resch

Friday 4th July 2014 10 - 11.30am

WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TANGO ORCHESTRAS - Part 1

Can you name six tango dance orchestras? If you had to pick five most important ones, which would you pick? Do you have a distinctive tango, a vals or a milonga in mind for each of them? Would you like to learn how to be a discerning tango listener? This two-part seminar will give you an insight into the evolution of tango’s most influential orchestras. We will listen to the development of each orchestra’s musical style, their major singers and musical influences. We will discover what sets them apart from each other and how you can identify their individual signatures. Orchestras covered will include Carlos di Sarli, Juan d’Arienzo, Anibal Troilo, Francisco Canaro and others.

Saturday 5th July 2014 10 - 11.30am

WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TANGO ORCHESTRAS - Part 2

Sunday 6th July 2014 3.30 - 5pm

CHOOSING TANGO MUSIC FOR A MILONGA - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Calling all tangueros/-as, who find themselves particularly liking or disliking the music at a milonga but just can’t quite say why… This workshop is designed both for you and for tango DJs, who seek to create a smooth musical journey for dancers using traditional tango. In our search of what makes for a satisfying, danceable tango event, we will cover topics such as song selection, tanda construction, tanda cycles, building up musical moods as well as file tagging and ordering. There will be time for discussion to share our ideas.
